Welcome
Getting started in 3 easy steps
First things first
1. Reach out to parents and share your plan for class economy, ask for donations to the class store
2. Discuss with students the rules and expectations, have them sign the rental agreement & apply for jobs
3. Begin your ledger -- Be consistent! Prepare for payday.
Adaptability -- this program is meant to be adapted to your needs and your students' needs. Let them help to control it as you go throughout the year, they may have suggestions, questions, or ideas that are not addressed here. Our economy is always changing, as is the job market, and shopping trends -- keep it relevant! I also encourage you to try out the stock market game and allow students to consider "investing" they money.

This site has been created to help teachers include Class Economy into their daily lessons to be able to effectively teach students about Personal Financial Literacy. Please know that there is so much you can do to help your students prepare for the real-world and understand the various concepts of economics. If we could set our students up to be smart consumers from a young age, there is no telling the impact they could have on society when they are adults and understand the importance of saving.
There are countless adaptations that can be made to this program to make it your own and invest your students in the concept of financial literacy. Each year I change a little piece to cater it to my students and their needs. Similarly, much of what I am presenting in this site has been adapted from other teachers around the country, who also understand the importance of building financially literate students!
Feel free to adapt any ideas you see here, so explore, learn, and begin teaching financial literacy!

The need for financial education in the United States has never been greater. The precipitous drop in savings rates and the rise of personal debt indicates a looming
crisis that will be averted only through the combined efforts of public and private
sectors, educators and, in the end, individuals making informed choices about their
own financial futures. These problems will not be solved by education alone, but we
are certain that they cannot be solved without education.
